Understand employee performance with the employee scorecard feature

Available for the following HR plan: Platinum
Available for the following user access levels: Manager    , Admin

Employee scorecards are a collection of data points that can give you valuable insights about employees. You can use the data in the scorecard overview to understand how your employees are performing and how engaged they are. You can also make more informed decisions that create better outcomes, such as improved retention.

Important

The employee scorecard is a trial feature, it cannot be turned off and access cannot be changed. We are gathering information and will make improvements as we learn what works.

Getting started

Viewing an employee's scorecard

Important

Employee scorecards and the salary benchmark indicators are visible only to admins, owners and direct managers if they have been granted access to Pay Details within Custom Security Settings. Learn more about Custom Security Settings in this article. Only the employee's manager can edit and complete the Performance and Potential tab.
  1. Log into the Employment Hero platform.
  2. Click the People menu, then click Employee List.
  3. Click on the name of the employee you want to view.
  4. That employee's scorecard will appear at the top of their profile.

Understanding the employee scorecard

Employee Overview

Salary Benchmark Range:

The salary bar shows where employees' salaries fall within their field, not just within your company. Using this data, you can determine how well-paid the employee is. Our salary benchmark data comes from Employment Hero's large collection of similar job titles. It takes into account how old you are, how long you have been working, in which industry you work, and where you live. A salary range will not be provided if there is no matching job title in our benchmarking data. For more information on salary benchmarking, see this article.

Managers will not see an employee's actual salary within the graph. They will only see how the employee's salary compares to the employee's industry.

Absenteeism

Employees are given an absenteeism score, which can be compared to your organisation's overall absenteeism score.

The score is calculated using the Bradford formula and only looks at Leave Categories with 'personal, 'sick', 'medical', or 'MC' in the title. If an absenteeism score has not been calculated, you can change your Leave Category titles to include one of the words above.

 Here's how absenteeism is calculated:

S x S x D = B

  • S stands for spells, which are the number of occasions an employee was absent within a 52-week period
  • D is the total number of days of absence within that same period
  • B stands for the resulting Bradford Factor score, which we call absenteeism

Important

The absenteeism scorecard should be used as a reference point alongside the wider context of an employee's leave needs and reasoning.

Engagement Score:

This shows how many shoutouts and recognitions the employee has received in the last 30 days. It indicates an employee's engagement by benchmarking their recognition against your company's average.

Happiness Score:

This feature is yet to be released.

Performance and potential

Important

Please note that the Performance and Potential tab is only visible to managers.

How to rate an employee's performance:

  1. Click on one of the stars under "How would you rate the performance of this employee?".
  2. The scale runs between 1-3 stars.

Important

The ratings you give for performance and potential will be used in your company's 9-Box Talent Grid. You can learn more about the 9-Box Talent Grid in this article.

  • Hi, as an admin of my organisation I can't view the Absenteeism and Performance & Potential sections of the scorecard. Is this limited to managers of employees?

  • How do we get the performance and potential to show for our employees. At the moment it is only showing the overview. See attached photos as an example.

  • Hi Brodyn Kemish, thank you for your comment and apologies for the late response. Admins should be able to see "Absenteeism." However, only managers can see the "Performance & Potential" components for their direct reports.

    Thank you for reaching out!

  • How is the happiness score calculated? I assume this won't be using the happiness surveys which are advertised as anonymous

  • Hi Jesse Baker - thanks for your comment.

As this is not yet released, we're unable to confirm how this is calculated, however, we'll be able to share more details closer to the release date.

  • Thanks Russell! Since the widget popped up we’ve received a fair amount of concern regarding the privacy of scores previously given by employees who were under the impression it was entirely anonymous. Should the anonymity change, we would appreciate the ability to remove all previously given scores in order to maintain trust with our workers.

  • Jesse Baker no worries, we appreciate your concern and we take privacy seriously here at Employment Hero. We'll be updating this page as soon as we receive more information about the happiness score and how it works.

  • Hi Alison Kerrigan, thanks for getting in touch. This is an area the team are improving, although I am unsure about the specifics of what is being worked on. However, I will raise this with our product team as a feature request, so they know it is wanted. Thanks
