As an organisation, you assign employees either standard or custom working hours. Standard hours mean a consistent 38-hour workweek, while custom hours vary, such as 8 hours on Monday and 7 on Tuesday.
The Work Hours feature in an employee's file lets you record their standard or custom working hours. For standard hours, specify the weekly total and daily hours. For custom hours, allocate the work type and daily hours, with data entry possible over a two-week period.
Getting started
The below covers setting up either an employee's standard daily hours or their custom work hours
- Click the Personnel menu.
- Click the Employees submenu.
- Select the employee that needs standard daily hours added.
- Select the Pay & compensation tile.
- Click the Pay Details tab.
- Select the edit icon in the Work hours section.
- Click the Standard Daily Hours button.
- Complete the following fields:
- Normal working hours per week.
- Ordinary work day.
- Click the Save button.
Important
Custom Work Hours is only available on our HR classic Premium and Platinum plans.
You will need to ensure that you have typical work hours set up in your company settings and under the employment settings tab. Navigate to Settings Company Settings - Employment Settings - Adding in Typical Normal Working Hours Per Week > click on Save.

- Select the Pay & compensation tile.
- Click the Pay Details tab.
- Select the edit icon in the Work hours section.
- Click the Custom Work Hours button.
- Click the Enter Hours button.
- Complete the following fields:
- Cost centre.
- Hours.
- Click the button.
Important
A second working week will enable you to enter specific work hours over a two-week period. To read further information on how the platform determines a second working week, refer to the following section.

- Click the Save button.

- Work time.
- Break time.
- Click the button.

Further information
Employment Hero bases the first and second working week on an employee's start date, i.e. if an employee's start date is the 1st of January, the week of the 1st January to the 7th January will be their first working week. Then from the 8th January to the 15th of January will be their second working week.
Please note that Custom Work Hours are only compatible with the Employment Hero Payroll platform.
