Statutory Neonatal Care Leave (SNCL) and Pay (SNCP) provide essential support for employees whose newborns require extended care. These provisions are part of the UK government's Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act 2023, which is set to take effect in April 2025.
The Add SNCL feature allows you as an admin to manage and process SNCL and SNCP for your organisation's employees, as well as determine their eligibility for these benefits.
Manage data
- Log in to your Employment Hero platform.
- Click Employee on the main menu and List on the submenu.
- Click the name of the relevant employee.
- On the grey menu, click Statutory/Occupational Pay.
- Click the Add button.
- Click the Select statutory leave categories dropdown field and select Statutory Neonatal Care Leave.
- Enter the relevant dates in the Start date and Baby due date fields.
- Complete the fields (these will appear automatically because you entered the relevant dates).
Helpful Hint
The employee's eligibility for SNCP (statutory neonatal care pay) is calculated automatically. You will therefore either see a green note that says "✓ This employee is eligible for SNCP" or a red note that says "This employee is not eligible for SNCP".
If you believe the employee has been marked as ineligible in error, select the Override checkbox and update the value in the Average weekly earnings field.
Important
You may have already paid some of the SNCP but now wish to pause it while the employee either 1) has temporarily returned to work or 2) is being paid another statutory leave type under the tier one rules of the UK government's Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act 2023.
If this is the case, tick the Pause SNCP checkbox to pause the payments. You then simply need to untick the box when you are ready to resume the payments. - Scroll down through the Statutory/Occupational Leave window.
- If required, complete the fields in the Advanced settings section.
- If required, click the Add button in the Attachments field (this gives you the option to upload one or more supporting documents).
- Click the Save button.
