Drafting effective screening questions is a core part of building a successful job post. If questions lack structure, such as using open text boxes instead of clear multiple choice or dropdown options, you cannot automate candidate filtering. This results in manual review time and potential delays in hiring.
The AI Screening Question Suggestions feature acts as a smart assistant within the recruitment workflow. It analyzes the job description to extract essential skills, qualifications, and certifications, then instantly drafts tailored questions. It also sets up automated rules to ensure the screening process acts as an intelligent gatekeeper for the candidate pool.
Use AI to generate and optimize screening questions
The assistant reads the job description to identify critical requirements that may have been overlooked, such as specific licenses, weekend availability, or work rights.
- Navigate to the Screening questions section during the job creation process.
- Click the Generate with AI button.
-
Review the suggested questions in the AI Suggestions side pane.
- Click Add next to a specific question or Add All to populate the screening list instantly.
Note on plan access
For organisations on a Platinum plan, these suggestions feature a Trial badge. Employment Unlimited users have full access without the trial badge.
When specific questions are needed but the best format for automated filtering is unclear, the Sparkle tool provides optimization.
- Click Add question and enter the question in plain text (for example: "What is your expected salary?").
-
Click the Sparkle (✨) icon next to the question field.
- The system instantly suggests a structured format, such as a Dropdown with pre-filled salary ranges or Multiple Choice with industry-standard options like specific software or tools.
- Click Save once the conversion is complete.
Automated rules allow the system to handle initial screening, ensuring only qualified candidates progress through the hiring pipeline.
Auto-disqualification
For essential requirements, such as holding a valid driver's license or having full work rights, the system can enable disqualification logic.
- If a candidate selects a disqualifying answer, they move to the disqualified stage automatically.
- This removes the need for manual review of ineligible applicants.
Preferred answers
Identify specific skills by setting preferred answers. This helps the system score and rank candidates who possess those qualifications higher in the review list.
After building an optimized list of questions, save them as a template for future job postings.
- Click Save as template after finishing the question setup.
-
When modifying an existing template, choose to either Update the current version or Save as new template.
