Reactivate a terminated employee

The Reactivate feature lets admins reactivate the profile of a terminated or inactive employee. For payroll-connected organisations, the feature allows Employment Hero to automatically create a new payroll record for the employee to match what the HMRC is expecting. This helps prevent any issues with syncing brought about by the employee having a matching National Insurance number on the platform but having an inactive record.

Getting started

Reactivate a terminated or inactive employee
  1. Click the  People menu.
  2. Click the Employees List submenu.
  3. Click the Filter button.
  4. Tick the Terminated checkbox.

Further information

Will the employee automatically get a new payroll ID upon reactivation?

If a terminated employee did not have a payroll ID before termination, the Payroll ID field will remain blank upon reactivation. However, the platform will still create a new payroll record form them correctly. If the employee previously had a payroll ID, they will get a new one when their profile is reactivated. For example, if an employee used to have the payroll ID 546389, upon reactivation, their ID will change to the following on both platforms:
