Available for the following plans: Employment Lite, Employment Plus, Employment Unlimited
Available for the following HR plans: Standard, Premium, Platinum
Available for the following User Access levels: Admin
HR Admins can control who can post to the Company Feed. They can also control what types of posts they can make and who can see those posts. By default, an auto-created Custom Security Group grants all employees the same posting access they currently have. You can modify this group or create additional groups to tailor Company Feed access to your organisation's needs.
Important
Contractors cannot be assigned to Custom Security Groups and will not have access to post to the Company Feed. They can still view posts and add reactions and comments.
Setting up Company Feed permissions
A default Custom Security Group called "Company Feed" is automatically created in your organisation. This group applies to all employees and grants them the same posting access they currently have. You can modify this group at any time.
- Click the Settings menu.
- In the Security & Access Control section, click Permissions.
- Find the Company Feed section in the permissions list.
- Under Post to Company Feed, click the Custom Security Group you want to modify.
- Adjust the following settings as needed:
- Enable or disable the post-creation permission
- Toggle individual post types on or off
- Restrict visibility to specific teams if needed
- Click Save.
Changes take effect immediately across all employees in that group and all platforms (web and mobile).
Helpful Hint
For detailed instructions on creating and managing Custom Security Groups, see Grant feature access to employees through Permission settings.
You can create multiple Custom Security Groups with different Company Feed permissions to cater to different roles or departments.
- Click the Settings menu.
- In the Security & Access Control section, click Permissions.
- Click Create Custom Security Group.
- Name your group (e.g., "Marketing Team Feed Access").
- Select the employees or teams to assign to this group.
- Scroll to Post to Company Feed and configure the permissions for this group.
- Click Save.
Use case: Create separate groups for different departments with tailored post-type permissions, or restrict certain teams to posting only within their own group.
Understanding Company Feed permissions
This permission controls whether an employee can create posts on the Company Feed.
- Employees with this permission see the + Create post button
- Employees without this permission cannot create posts but can still view, react to, and comment on posts created by others
- This permission applies across both web and mobile apps
Use case: Disable post creation entirely if you want to use the Company Feed as a broadcast channel for announcements only.
Once post creation is enabled, you can control which types of posts employees can create:
- Regular Post - General updates and information sharing
- Shoutout - Public recognition of colleagues
- Announcement - Formal announcements with optional read confirmations
- Birthday - Celebrating employee birthdays (requires Employment Plus/Platinum plan)
- Anniversary - Celebrating work anniversaries (requires Employment Plus/Platinum plan)
- Recognition - Recognition aligned with company values (requires Employment Plus/Platinum plan)
Each post type can be independently enabled or disabled. If a post type is disabled, it won't appear as an option when employees create posts.
Use case: Allow regular posts and shoutouts but disable birthday posts if your organisation prefers not to share personal milestones on the feed.
You can limit which teams or groups employees can send posts to:
- No restriction - Employees can send posts to everyone or select specific teams
- Restrict to specific teams - Employees can only send posts to selected teams you specify
When visibility is restricted, employees cannot use the "Everyone" option. They must select from the allowed teams.
Use case: If you have geographically distributed teams, restrict posting so warehouse employees can only post to warehouse-related teams, preventing irrelevant information from reaching unrelated groups.
Important considerations
- Permissions are enforced immediately when you save changes
- If you disable a post type, employees will no longer see that option when creating posts
- If you disable all post types, the + Create post button disappears entirely
- Existing posts are not affected by permission changes
- Employees can still view, react to, and comment on posts regardless of their posting permissions
Contractors cannot be assigned to Custom Security Groups, which means they cannot post to the Company Feed. Contractors can still:
- View posts on the Company Feed
- Add reactions (emojis) to posts
- Add comments to posts
If your organisation relies on contractors to post to the Company Feed, you may need to consider alternative communication channels for them.
All Company Feed posts and interactions are recorded in your audit trail. For posts with read confirmation enabled, you can track which employees have acknowledged announcements.
Getting started
To manage Company Feed permissions, start by reviewing your organisation's communication needs. Decide which employees should be able to post, which post types are appropriate, and whether visibility should be restricted by team or group.
Then go to Settings > Permissions to view the auto-created Company Feed group and make adjustments. For detailed instructions on managing Custom Security Groups, see Grant feature access to employees through Permission settings.
For more information on using the Company Feed itself, see Use the Company Feed.
