Assigning is the primary action to deliver learning on the learning platform. Assigning learning allows you to set optional due dates that are triggered immediately, and track learner progress via the Course Management page for that learning resource. You can also use the Course Management page to action other key tasks, such as reassigning a learning course.
The primary action used to be Enrol to trigger due dates. However, we have unified the way assigning learning looks and feels across the platform to deliver a consistent and efficient experience. Learn more about how we are improving your workflow to deliver learning across the platform.
Assign learning from these locations
- Learner Profile.
- Search and Explore.

How to assign content
Assignments allow you to deliver required learning to specific people or groups. You can assign up to 50 pieces of content at once.
- Navigate to the Assignments page and select + Create assignment.
- Select your recipients: Choose individuals from the Learners tab or search for specific groups in the Groups tab.
- Add Content: Search for the courses or items you want to include.
- Name your assignment: This defaults to the course title, but you can edit it for clarity (e.g., "Annual Compliance 2024").
-
Choose your assignment type:
- Fixed due date: Everyone completes by a specific calendar date.
- Rolling due date: Everyone gets a set amount of time (e.g., 30 days) from when they receive the assignment.
- No due date: Learners complete at their own pace.
- Choose when to assign: Select Assign immediately or Schedule for a future date.
- (Optional) Set the assignment to Repeat for recurring training like annual refreshers.
- Click Create assignment.
Manage and edit assignments
You can update active or scheduled assignments if training needs change. You must be an Admin, Content Admin, or the Manager who created the assignment.
- Navigate to Assignments from the left menu.
- Select the assignment you want to edit from the In progress or Scheduled tab.
- The assignment detail panel will open on the right. You can edit the following by clicking the Pencil (edit) icon:
- Name: Click the title at the top to rename.
- Due Date/Type: Change between Fixed, Rolling, or No Due Date.
- Learners: Add or remove individual learners or entire groups.
- Content: Add new items or remove existing ones from the "Assigned items" section.
- Click Update after making your changes.
Note: If you switch from a rolling/no due date to a fixed due date, new members added to a group later will not automatically receive the assignment.
So, why does Enrol exist in some locations?
Enrol used to be the primary action on the Learning platform. However, we have now unified how assigning looks and feels to provide a consistent and more efficient experience. Enrol still exists in some locations within the platform as a secondary action.
We recommend moving to Assign as a primary action to deliver your learning effectively. However, you can enrol learners from these features across the platform:
- Learner profile as a secondary action.
- Results/Report page from any piece of learning content.
- From the Enrolment Administer Import feature, for bulk upload of pre-existing enrolments.
- Visibility and access setting in the Course Builder feature.
Why is Enrol a primary action in Course Builder?
Sometimes you will need to keep courses private and unsearchable from users on the platform. However, you may still need to share these courses with specific learners. This is where Enrol for a private course is best used. In all other cases, we recommend assigning learning, either individually or in bulk.
