As an employer, managing performance reviews is a crucial task that requires careful planning and execution. With Employment Hero, you can easily create and manage reviews that allow employees and their managers to provide feedback and assess performance. Whether you prefer to schedule short quarterly check-ins or annual performance reviews, you can customise your review process to fit your organisation's needs.
How to Prepare
- Establish your review frequency (whether annual or quarterly).

- Select Settings from the main menu.
- Then, select Review Settings.
The first stage in building a performance review within the HR platform is the creation of a rating scale. You can build these based on your organisation's values, key performance indicators (KPIs), targets or behaviour and competencies.
The rating scales feature allows you to build your own customisable rating scale, or you can choose from Employment Hero's pre-provided templates.
- Select Add New Rating Scale.
- Customise the rating scale to suit your organisation.
- A minimum of two scale names and descriptions are required to continue.
- Select Review Questions.
- Click on Add New Review Question.
- Enter a name and description for the review question
- Click Save.
In the third stage of building a performance review on the HR platform, you will create a review template that brings together the rating scale and review questions. This step requires determining how these two elements will interact with each other.
- Select Review Templates.
- Then, select Add New Review Template.
- Choose a name and description for the review.
- If you choose to include an overall rating to the template, select your rating scale.
- Click Save.
- Select Add New Questions.
- Choose a question from the drop-down menu.
- Choose an answer type. Scalar rating will require you to use one of the rating scales you created previously.
- Click Save.
- Repeat until the review includes all of the relevant questions.
The final step in building a performance review on the HR platform is to create and assign a review period. Using the template you previously created, you can set the start and end dates, and select the employees who will receive this completed performance review.
- Select Review Periods.
- Then, select Add New Review Period.
- Choose the Title, Start Date, End Date and Lock Out Date.
- Choose whether to publish the draft response on the lockout date.
- Choose when to start sending email reminders.
- Select the relevant template for the review period.
- Choose if you would like this review to have an overall score.
- Choose if you would like the questions to be weighted.
- Write a description for the review period.
- Upload any additional files if applicable.
- Specify who should complete the review by either selecting Add All Employees or by adding specific employees or teams to the review.
- Click Save.
Next Steps
Once you have completed and shared your review, you’re good to go! The selected employees will receive an email notification (unless you are still in setup mode), and both the employee and their primary manager will be required to complete the review. You can sit back and relax as they receive gentle reminders to ensure they complete the review on time.
