Who are you and what section are you in?

Teams > Groups

Important

This change is in open beta and will be released publicly on 15 August 2025. You can turn on this open beta experience by following the instructions in this article.

What is changing

  • Teams is now called Groups. This is a name change only; all references to "Teams" within Employment Hero have been updated to "Groups."
  • Groups can be found in Settings. You'll find "Groups" under Settings in the People section of the platform.

Why we're making this change

  • "Groups" better reflects how customers use the feature. Most users have been using "Teams" to create flexible groupings of employees (e.g., project teams, departments), so the term "Groups" is more intuitive.

  • We're making room for a new "Teams" feature. This update clears the way for a separate, upcoming functionality that will introduce a brand new way to manage actual organisational teams.

What is not changing

  • Permissions are not changing in this update.

  • Data migration is not changing—your existing Teams (now Groups) will remain unchanged.

  • There is no impact on reporting lines.

  • Groups will continue to function the same as Teams have—this is a terminology change only.
