Australian private sector and Commonwealth Public Sector employers with 100 or more employees must report to WGEA on 6 Gender Equality Indicators each year by law. While Employment Hero provides tools to assist with your WGEA reporting requirements, please note the recent changes regarding occupational category labeling and data conversion for 2026.
Important: ANZSCO to OSCA Update
We have updated the occupational category field to correctly reflect that it stores OSCA (Occupation Standard Classification Australia) codes. Previously, this field was mislabelled as "ANZSCO".
What this means for your 2026 reporting: WGEA still requires ANZSCO codes for 2026 submissions before transitioning to OSCA in 2027. To simplify this for you, Employment Hero will automatically convert your OSCA codes into the ANZSCO-compatible major group format (e.g., "0001") during the export process.
Daily activities
Manage Occupational Categories (OSCA)
Ensure your employees have the correct occupational category assigned. Any data previously entered under the "ANZSCO" label has been preserved under the new "OSCA" label.
- Navigate to Personnel Employees and select an employee.
- Click on Employment History.
- Scroll to the WGEA reporting section.
- The field is now labelled Occupational category (OSCA).
- Select a code from the dropdown or type a custom OSCA code if the specific role is not in the standard list.
- Hover over the info icon next to the label to view a tooltip explaining the 2026 conversion logic.
Generate the WGEA Workplace Profile Export
When exporting your WGEA data, the system automatically formats your OSCA codes to meet 2026 WGEA compliance requirements.
- Navigate to the WGEA Workplace Profile report page.
- Note the informational banner at the top of the page, which explains how OSCA codes (e.g., "1234 - Manager") are converted to major groups (e.g., "0001") for the export.
- Click Export.
- The resulting CSV will show the ANZSCO-compatible major group integer in the occupational category column, and description text will be excluded to match WGEA's 2026 format.
Create a Custom Report for WGEA data
If you require specific data, you can create a custom report using the Wizard.
- Navigate to Reports Create New Use Wizard.
- Name the report (e.g., "WGEA Custom Audit").
- When choosing fields, look under Employment Histories for Occupational category (OSCA) to include your saved codes.
- Follow the remaining prompts to generate and download your CSV.
Key things to note
2026 vs 2027 Reporting
Although the platform labels the field as OSCA today, WGEA officially transitions to OSCA for lodgements starting in 2027. Our automated conversion ensures your current OSCA data remains valid for the 2026 ANZSCO requirements.
Custom Codes and Descriptions
To accommodate unique roles, you can save custom codes (e.g., "9999 - My Custom Role") to an employee record. On export, the system will only include the major group integer (e.g., "0009") to ensure the file is accepted by WGEA.
