When syncing data between Employment Hero and your connected payroll platform, you may encounter integration problems that result in data errors. The Issues Summary Hub is a centralised page where you can investigate and resolve these issues across all issue categories — employee files, salary versions, contractor files, lodgement, leave requests, timesheets, expenses, and work eligibility — in a single view.
Once you have resolved an underlying issue, you can re-sync the relevant record directly from the Hub without navigating away.
Issues Summary Dashboard
Available on Elite and Unlimited plans only
If your organisation is on an Elite or Unlimited plan, you will also see an Issues Summary Dashboard panel on the Total Workforce page. This panel shows a live count of workers with critical errors and provides a shortcut into the Issues Summary Hub.
- If critical issues exist, a red badge displays the number of affected workers. Click Resolve Issues to go directly to the Issues Summary Hub.
- If no critical issues exist, click View Issues Summary Hub to open the Hub.
Note: The Dashboard reflects errors recorded during the most recent sync. Workers who have never been synced (for example, newly added employees where payroll is not yet connected) will not appear in the indicator even if their records are incomplete.
Getting started
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Click the People menu in the left-hand navigation.
- Click Issues Summary Hub from the sub-menu.
The page title Issues Summary Hub will appear, along with the subtitle: Surfacing workforce and operational issues in one place. Resolve errors before they cause a pay run failure, STP lodgement error, or wider workforce problems.
The Issues Summary Hub presents all issue categories as individual cards within two sections:
- Payroll Issues — Employee Files, Salary Versions, Lodgement, Leave Requests, Timesheets, Expenses, Contractor Files
- Work Eligibility
Each section and card displays a status badge:
- Issues found (red) — active issues exist in this category. The card is expanded by default so you can see and action the affected records immediately.
- No issues (green) — no active issues in this category. The card is collapsed and cannot be expanded.
Badges update live as issues are resolved or new ones appear.
Note: Lodgement card visibility
The Lodgement card is not shown for organisations on a free plan.
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Click the People menu.
- Click Issues Summary Hub.
- Locate the relevant card — for example, Employee Files, Leave Requests, Timesheets, or Expenses.
- Click the Actions dropdown for the affected record.
- Click Re-Sync (or Retry if your organisation uses AIO Auto Sync to Payroll).
- Click OK to confirm.
If the re-sync resolves the error, the record is automatically removed from the card. If no active issues remain in that category, the card collapses.
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Click the People menu.
- Click Issues Summary Hub.
- Locate the relevant card.
- Select the checkboxes next to the records that need to be re-synced.
- Click the Re-Sync button in the toolbar.
- Click OK to confirm.
Successfully re-synced records are removed from the list automatically. Records where the re-sync did not resolve the error remain visible with updated error information.
Maintain
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Click the People menu.
- Click Issues Summary Hub.
- Locate the relevant card.
- Click the Actions dropdown for the affected record.
- Click View Details.
For Employee Files and Contractor Files, View Details takes you directly to that worker's file so you can update the missing or invalid information. Return to the Issues Summary Hub and re-sync the record once the fix has been made.
For Leave Requests, View Details opens a modal showing the full context of that leave request error.
Note
There is currently no direct "Back to Issues Summary Hub" link from within an employee or contractor profile. Use your browser's back button or navigate via the People menu to return.
You can hide individual records from your active view in the Leave Requests, Timesheets, and Expenses cards. Hidden records are not deleted and can be restored at any time.
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Click the People menu.
- Click Issues Summary Hub.
- Locate the relevant card (Leave Requests, Timesheets, or Expenses).
- Click the Actions dropdown for the record you want to hide.
- Click Hide from Dashboard.
- Click OK to confirm.
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Click the People menu.
- Click Issues Summary Hub.
- Locate the relevant card (Leave Requests, Timesheets, or Expenses).
- Select the checkboxes next to the records you want to hide.
- Click the Hide from Dashboard button in the toolbar.
- Click OK to confirm.
Hidden records can be restored to the active view at any time using the Show hidden toggle, available on cards that support hiding (Leave Requests, Timesheets, and Expenses).
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Click the People menu.
- Click Issues Summary Hub.
- Locate the relevant card.
- Click Show hidden to display previously hidden records.
Troubleshooting payroll sync issues
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Click on People on the left-hand side navigation menu.
- Click on People list.
- Select the employee who is not syncing to payroll.
- Click on the Pay & Compensation tab.
- Click on Pay Details.
- Click on Pay Run Details.
- Make sure that Synchronise with payroll has been ticked for this employee.
Employment Hero will check once a day for eligible pay slips and requires three conditions to import pay slips automatically from your payroll platform:
- A finalised pay run.
- A published pay slip.
- The paid date is within four days of the current date (three days prior and/or three days after the current date).
If you are getting an "Error 400" message when syncing Employment Hero to your payroll platform, this is usually because work types have been deleted in the Payroll system. Since Employment Hero is your source of truth, any changes made in Payroll need to be manually updated in Employment Hero to flow through.
To troubleshoot this issue, follow the two-part steps below:
Part 1:
- Click Settings.
- Click Work types.
- Click Update Payroll.
Part 2:
- Click the People menu.
- Click Issues Summary Hub.
- Locate the Employee Files card.
- Select the employees whose errors need to be fixed.
- Click Re-Sync.
For changes affecting multiple employees, use the Payroll platform and then pull the information across to Employment Hero.
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Click on People on the left-hand side navigation menu.
- Click on People list.
- Select the employee who is not syncing to payroll.
- Check to see if Employment Hero has provided a notification that not all details are filled.
- If you see a notification on the employee file, fill in any missing details to ensure that the sync can occur.
Employee Onboarding > Automatic Lodgement The HR platform will automatically attempt to lodge each new employee’s TFND to the ATO during employee onboarding.
This allows the platform to display the employee’s Stapled Super fund during the Superannuation step of onboarding.
The TFND lodgement is required for the Stapled Super feature, because an employment relationship needs to be established between the employer and the employee via the ATO. This can be done through either a TFND lodgement or an STP event (pay run).
If the platform attempts to display the Stapled Super fund, but fails, the ATO will notify the client (example here).
If there is a TFND lodgement error (or no TFND lodgement attempted), the platform will not attempt to display the Stapled Super fund during onboarding.
If the organisation does not have the ATO Integration set up (Settings > ATO Integration), the TFND lodgement will not be attempted (and therefore the Stapled Super fund will not be requested or displayed).
Tax Report > Manual Lodgement
Lodge Electronically
Users can navigate to Reports > Compliance > Tax Report and click “Lodge Electronically” to manually trigger a TFND lodgement.
Mark as Lodged
In the Tax Report, users can also click “Mark as Lodged” to record a lodgement date, if they have (or will) lodge the TFND outside of the EH HR platform. “Marking as lodged” does not require any setup in Settings > Tax Declaration, or in Settings > ATO Integration. This will reflect in the Tax Report as “Lodged Manually”.
Issues/Error Messages
If there is an error during TFND lodgement, it will display in:
People > Issues Summary Hub > Lodgement Issues
The employee file (yellow banner, similar to a Payroll sync issue)
Reports > Compliance > Tax Report (shows as “Lodgement Failed”)
Initial Troubleshooting (General)
Confirm the employee’s TFN is in a valid format (8- or 9-digit number)
-
Ask the client to attempt to relodge (this rules out temporary or already-resolved issues)
Go to Reports > Compliance > Tax Report, select the employee(s), and click “Lodge Electronically”
The table below lists error messages that can appear during HR tax declaration (TFND) lodgement, with their possible causes and next steps.
