Available for the following User Access levels: Manager, Admin
The People list provides a simplified way to view and manage your personnel data. To ensure a clean experience, the platform automatically adjusts the interface based on the information available to you. When only the standard list is relevant, the interface simplifies itself by removing unnecessary navigation elements. However, when there are specific items requiring your attention, such as compliance or synchronisation issues, the platform restores full navigation tabs so you can switch between different data views easily.
What's changed
Contractors are now included directly in the People List. The Independent Contractors page has been removed. You can find and manage all contractor records from the People List alongside your employees.
This article will show you how to manage the following:
View the simplified People list
If your organisation only has the standard employee list available, the platform removes the single Employees tab to provide more screen space and reduce visual noise.
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Navigate to the Personnel or People list page.
- Observe that the Employees tab label is hidden if no other views exist.
- View your employee data directly without any empty bars or gaps at the top of the list.
Helpful Hint
Even though the tab label is hidden, all your employee list functions and data remain fully visible and work exactly as they did before.
Switch between multiple employee views
When there are multiple categories of employee data to review, the navigation tabs will automatically appear to help you switch views.
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Navigate to the Personnel or People list page.
- Locate the tabs at the top of the list, which may include:
- Employees (selected by default)
- Contractors
- Work Eligibility Issues
- Payroll Sync Issues
- Click on any tab to view the specific content related to that category.
Helpful Hint
The tab you are currently viewing will be visually distinguishable from the others, so you always know which list you are managing.
Further information
The visibility of tabs is determined by the number of views available to you at any given time.
The table below explains how tabs in your People list view appear automatically, depending on which views are available.
| Scenario | Visual Experience |
| Only "Employees" view is available | The "Employees" tab label is hidden, and the list displays directly for a cleaner look. |
| Two or more views are available | All relevant tabs (e.g., Employees, Contractors, Work Eligibility Issues) are shown for easy navigation. |
What does the Orange Payroll Synchronisation warning label mean?
This warning typically triggers when a record has been edited in HR after an initial sync, or when an item requires manual verification before it can fully reconcile with Payroll.
Common reasons for an orange status:
- Post-Sync Modifications: An approved record (such as leave or personal details) was modified in HR after the original data was pushed to Payroll.
- Pending Sync Queue: Information has been updated and is waiting to push during the next automatic integration cycle.
- Incomplete Setup: Secondary pay parameters (e.g., allowances or secondary cost centres) are missing or incomplete.
How to resolve: Review the record in the Issues Summary Hub or navigate to the profile and select Actions > Re-Sync to force an immediate update to Payroll.
What does the Red Payroll Synchronisation warning label mean?
Critical Integration Error or Sync Failure. Data for this employee cannot be transmitted to your payroll platform until the underlying issue is resolved.
This error prevents affected personnel details, leave requests, or timesheets from processing in pay runs.
Common causes for a red error badge:
- Missing Mandatory Fields: Critical fields required by payroll (such as Tax File Number/NI Number, Date of Birth, or Bank Account Details) are missing in the employee file.
- Disabled Payroll Sync: The "Synchronise with payroll" setting is unticked under the employee’s Pay Run Details tab.
- Deleted Work Types / Categories: Pay categories or work types in Employment Hero no longer match the mapped fields in Payroll.
- API / Authentication Failure: The integration connection timed out or lost credentials between platforms.
How to resolve:
- Go to People > Issues Summary Hub to read the specific error code/message.
- Update the missing information directly on the employee profile.
- Click Re-Sync to validate and resolve the alert.
