The below article provides guidelines about when to use the different work types and tags that we include as part of the pre-built Commercial Sales Award package. For further information about this industry award, refer to Commercial Sales Award 2020 [MA000083].
Key updates

1st
We have updated the award to reflect the Fair Work Commission's National Minimum Wage increase detailed in the Annual Wage Review 2023-24 decision and also includes updates to expense-related allowances. You can find more information on the Determinations here and here.
These changes come into effect from the first full pay period on or after the 1st July 2024. Please install these updates after you have finalised your last pay run before the first full pay period beginning on or after the 1st July 2024.
We have also updated the "Community Service Leave Taken" pay category, where it does not accrue super.
All rule sets has been updated to include a rule for Paid Family Domestic Violence Leave.
1st
From 1 August, all employees are entitled to 10 days of paid family and domestic violence leave each year. The (Unpaid) Family and Domestic Violence Leave configuration settings under awards have been updated - the leave category is disabled from award leave allowance templates, and the work type is not enabled automatically for all employees. Please ensure that employees no longer use the unpaid leave category or work type.

The award default Rule Set Period is set to Weekly that ends every Sunday. If you follow a different work pattern or roster period, you can review and set the rule set period date that applies to your organisation. Refer to Review the rule set period date
Work types
Work types are a description of the kind of shift you are working, and you select them when you record a timesheet. The following is a list of work types employees can select on their timesheet, and the meaning of each item.
Annual Leave Taken | Choose this work type when annual leave is taken. |
Compassionate Leave Taken | Choose this work type when compassionate leave is taken. |
Family and Domestic Violence Leave Taken | Choose this work type when family and domestic violence leave is taken. |
Leave Without Pay Taken | Choose this work type when unpaid leave is taken. |
Living away from home allowance | Choose this work type when Living away from home more than two nights away from usual place of residence . |
Long Service Leave Taken | Choose this work type when long service leave is taken. Not Relieved for RDO. |
Paid Community Service Leave Taken | Choose this work type when community service leave is taken. |
Paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave Taken | Choose this work type when paid family and domestic violence leave taken |
Personal/Carer's Leave Taken | Choose this work type when personal or carer's leave is taken and the business accrues the leave in hours. |
Public Holiday Not Worked | Choose this work type when an employee is not required to work on a gazetted public holiday but otherwise would have worked on this day. |
Time In Lieu Taken | Choose this work type when time in lieu is taken. |
TIL of Overtime | Choose this work type if the employee elects to accrue time in lieu rather than be paid overtime for a shift. |
TIL Accrual - Public Holiday | Choose this work type if the employee elects to accrue time in lieu rather than be paid Public Holiday penalty rates for a shift. |
TIL Accrual - Travelling Time | Choose this work type if the employee elects to accrue time in lieu rather than be paid travelling time in connection with work on Public Holiday . |
Travelling Time | Choose this work type when travelling in connection with work on Public Holiday. |
Vehicle Allowance - Car | Choose this work type where an employer requests an employee to use their own motor vehicle to perform work duties. The kilometres travelled should be entered into the ‘units’ field i.e. one unit is equivalent to one kilometre. |
Vehicle Allowance - Motorcycle | Choose this work type where an employer requests an employee to use their own motorcycle to perform work duties. The kilometres travelled should be entered into the ‘units’ field i.e. one unit is equivalent to one kilometre. |
Weekend Allowance | Choose this work type if the employee is required by the employer to be away from home (a usual place of residence) or headquarters for any weekend. |
System limitations
Please note that rules will not be able to interpret or calculate the below clauses due to platform limitations and will require manual intervention:
- Clause 20.3 Leave loading (b) Where the employee receives commission, such employee will, in addition to their ordinary pay, receive either the average of the commission payments earned over the preceding 12 months or the loading prescribed in clause 20.3(a),whichever is the greater.
- Clause 19.3 (e) Time off instead of payment for overtime Time off must be taken:
- (i) Within the period of six months after the overtime is worked; and
- (ii) At a time or times within that period of 6 months agreed by the employee and employer.
