Understanding the distinction between physical Work Sites and financial Cost Centres is essential for accurately managing your team's attendance and unlocking location-based features like Geofencing.
This article explains how to:
- Identify the difference between Work Sites and Cost Centres
- Understand why Geofencing may be missing
- Set up a Work Site for Geofencing
Getting started
A Work Site defines a physical or geographical location with GPS coordinates (e.g., London Office). This enables Geofencing and Weather Integration.
A Cost Centre is a financial unit used to track budgeting and payroll costs (e.g., Marketing Dept) and does not contain geographical data.
| Feature | Work Sites (Physical) | Cost Centres (Financial) |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Purpose | Defines a physical or geographical location. | A financial unit for budgeting and payroll. |
| Key Function | Links to GPS coordinates and addresses. | Links to accounting codes and reporting. |
| Enables... | Geofencing and location-based rotas. | Financial tracking and labour cost analysis. |
Geofencing requires a physical address to function. If you cannot see Geofencing options, it is usually because:
- You are using Cost Centres instead of Work Sites.
- You are on a classic version of the system that uses "Locations" rather than the "Work Sites & Positions" framework.
- Your Work Site does not have a verified physical address saved in the settings.
To enable Geofencing, you must create a Work Site with a valid physical address:
- Navigate to Settings.
- Under Time & Attendance, click Work Sites & Positions.
- Click + Work Site and choose "From existing work site" or "New work site".
- Enter the work site information.
- Under the Geofencing field, click the toggle to turn it on.
- Under the Clocking radius field, set the radius from 50m to 500m.
- Click Save.
