If an employee has been terminated in error within a connected Human Resources (HR) and Payroll organisation in the United Kingdom, specific steps must be followed depending on whether the termination date has already passed or is set for a future date. This process ensures your payroll records remain aligned with required legislation.
This article will show you how to manage the following:
- Resolve a termination processed in error after the leave date passes
- Cancel an offboarding record before the leave date arrives
- Amend termination details for a valid offboarding case
Resolve a termination processed in error after the leave date passes
If you offboard an employee in error and the leave termination date has already been met, you will no longer have the option to fully cancel the offboarding directly. In this situation, do not process a reactivation through the record. Reactivating the record implies that the employee was legitimately terminated and now requires a completely new payroll record to satisfy legislative requirements.
If the employee retracted their resignation or was offboarded in error, follow these actions to correct the record:
- Do not proceed with the standard reactivation process.
- Contact the HR support team directly.
Helpful Hint
The support team will clear the termination from the back-end of the platform to restore the employee record without generating an unwanted, new payroll record.
Cancel an offboarding record before the leave date arrives
If the termination date was applied with a future date, you can reverse the process yourself directly inside the employee file.
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Navigate to the profile of the affected employee.
- Locate the termination or offboarding section.
- Click Cancel offboarding directly within the record.
Important
A structural cancelation of the offboarding before the leave date is met will successfully delete the pending termination and restore the employee back to an active status.
Amend termination details for a valid offboarding case
If the termination remains valid but you have agreed on a revised final leave date, you can adjust the termination details within the profile without stopping the overall offboarding process.
- Open the profile of the employee undergoing offboarding.
- Locate the termination information parameters.
- Click Edit on the termination details section.
- Update the final leave date field to the newly agreed date.
- Save your changes.
Please note that editing these details updates the active file but does not fully cancel the offboarding event.
