There are significant differences between the features available to employees, contractors, and volunteers. Contractors have limited access to features within the Employment Hero platform and do not automatically synchronise with an integrated payroll platform. Volunteers are permanently excluded from all payroll features.

By default, employees with no direct reports will only have access to their profile, the dashboard, any side menu bar items you have left turned on, and all things assigned to them. Employees with direct reports will also have access to their reports' profiles and management tools. Contractors have a similar scope with the exception of payroll-specific features. Volunteers have access only to HR and compliance-related features; all pay, tax, and time-off features are permanently excluded from their profiles.

The below tables detail what features are available by worker type. Please be aware that you can restrict some features on the platform via the Menu Customisation feature. To read further information, refer to the following article.

The Volunteer column in the tables below reflects confirmed feature availability at the time of the volunteer release. Items marked with an asterisk (*) in the Notes column have not yet been fully confirmed for volunteers and should be verified with the product team before communicating to customers.
