Configure performance review rating scales and questions

Available for the following HR plans: Premium, Platinum
Available for the following User Access levels: Admin

The initial step in building a performance review is developing a rating scale. This scale can be based on your organisation's values, key performance indicators (KPIs), targets, or specific behaviours and competencies. The next step in building a performance review is developing a review question. This  feature lets you formulate custom questions or utilise templates provided by Employment Hero. Like the rating scales, these questions can be edited or deleted as needed based on their importance or changes in focus.

Getting started

Add rating scale
  1. Log in to Employment Hero. 
  2. Click the Performance menu option.
  3. Click Performance Reviews.
  4. Click on the Review Templates tab.
  5. Click the Rating Scales button.
  6. Click on + Create rating scale.
  7. Complete the following fields:

    • Rating name.
    • Scale name.
    • Description.

    Helpful Hint

    You can use the Click to Add a New Rating Level button to add another scale name and a description field, and the Delete button to remove a scale name and a description field.

    Important

    The Employment Hero requires a minimum of two scale names and description fields.

  8. Click the Save button.
Add a review question
  1. Log in to Employment Hero. 
  2. Click the Performance menu option.
  3. Click the Performance Reviews option.
  4. Click on the Review Templates tab.
  5. Click on the + Create Review Template button.
  6. Add the following details:
    • Template name
    • Description (optional)
    • Questions
    • Settings

Helpful Hint

In the Questions section, you can either type in your own custom question in the + Add new question field, or you can click in the same field and choose your question category to add from the pre-existing options.

  1. Click on Publish template.

Editing data

Edit rating scale
  1. Log in to Employment Hero. 
  2. Click the Performance menu option.
  3. Click Performance Reviews.
  4. Click the Ratings Scale button.
  5. Click on the rating you need to edit.
  6. Make the required changes and click the Save button.

    Important

    Employment Hero requires a minimum of two scale name and description fields.

  7. Click the Save button. 

Data management

Edit a review question
  1. Log in to Employment Hero. 
  2. Click the Performance menu option.
  3. Click Performance Reviews.
  4. Click on the Review Templates tab.
  5. On the review template you wish to edit, click on the 3 horizontal dots.
  6. Click on Edit. 
  7. Scroll down to the questions and make your edits. 
  8. Click on Save at the bottom of the screen.
Disable a review question

Important

The disabling of review questions is only available when you have used the question within a review template.

  1. Log in to Employment Hero. 
  2. Click the Performance menu option.
  3. Click Performance Reviews.
  4. Click on the Review Templates tab.
  5. On the review template you wish to edit, click on the 3 horizontal dots.
  6. Click on Edit. 
  7. Scroll down to the questions and click on the red bin icon next to the question you wish to delete.
  8. Click on Save at the bottom of the screen.

Deleting data

Delete a rating scale
  1. Log in to Employment Hero. 
  2. Click the Performance menu option.
  3. Click Performance Reviews.
  4. Click on the Rating Scales button.
  5. On the rating scale you wish to edit, click on the 3 horizontal dots.
  6. Click the Delete button.

Helpful Hint

You can only delete your own rating scales that you have added to Employment Hero. The system-generated rating scales cannot be deleted.
