How to submit an unavailability request

Managing your time off just got a whole lot easier! As a contractor, you don't need to submit formal leave requests or wait for a manager's approval. 

Instead, you can instantly log when you're unavailable, and the system will automatically drop a heads-up in your manager's notifications. It’s quick, hassle-free, and keeps everyone on the same page.

Daily activities

Submit an unavailability request
  1. Log into the Employment Hero platform.
  2. Click the  Time menu.
  3. Click the Unavailability submenu.
  4. Click the Add button. add.png
  5. Complete the following fields:
    • On the / Until: Select the start and end dates from the calendar dropdowns.
    • All day: Check this box if you are unavailable for the full day sequence, or leave it unchecked to specify explicit Start time and End time settings.
    • On an ongoing basis: Check this toggle if the unavailability repeats, and choose the respective days of the week (e.g., Mon, Tue, etc.).
    • Note (Optional): Enter any relevant remarks or details.
  6. Click the Save button.

    Helpful Hint

    Periods of unavailability are recorded instantly with no approval required. Your manager will be automatically notified in their Notifications.

Cancel my unavailability request

Helpful Hint

When a contractor is offboarded, any future unavailability periods are automatically cancelled, keeping schedules clean without manual cleanup.

  1. Log into the Employment Hero platform.
  2. Click the  Time menu.
  3. Click the Unavailability submenu.
  4. Locate the scheduled item in the log and click its corresponding Cancel button under the Actions column. cancel.png
  5. On the confirmation pop-up prompt labeled Cancel unavailability, click the Yes, cancel it button to complete the removal.

Leave & Unavailability Management (For Managers)

Managers can easily track contractor availability side-by-side with employee leaves in the management dashboard interface:

  1. Navigate to the Time Off Management dashboard view.
  2. Locate and select the Worker type filter dropdown menu button option.
  3. Check or uncheck the checkboxes for Employees, Contractors, or select both simultaneously based on your scheduling evaluation requirements.
  4. Click the Apply button to reload the organized structural tables (displaying Employee leave and Contractor unavailability segments lower down on the active layout section).

Frequently asked questions

Do contractors need approval for unavailability?
No. Contractors can record periods of unavailability instantly with no approval required. Their manager is automatically notified via the platform's Notifications interface.
