If you are a registered tax/BAS agent.

This error means that, although you have enabled the connection between the ATO and your registered agent number, you are lodging the STP events as the employer (business owner). You will need to resolve this error before you lodge events to the ATO.

Solution

If you are an employer.

It is essential that you contact the ATO either by calling them or using the Access Manager platform and link the Software ID to each ABN. If you opt to call the ATO, we recommend having the following information on hand:

  • Proof of ownership record, for example, personnel TFN, date of birth, address or recent ATO generated notice.
  • Your Australian Business Number (ABN) or, if you are a registered tax agent, you can use your Registered Agent Number (RAN).
  • The name or ABN of your software provider.
  • Your unique Software ID provide by your software provider.

If you are a registered tax/BAS agent.

If the businesses configured its ATO Settings so that the reporting party is the registered Tax/BAS Agent, an employer/business owner can still lodge events. However, the business must follow the same procedures in connecting their ABN with the ATO, otherwise the lodgements will continue to fail.

If a registered agent is lodging the event, they must ensure they select Registered Tax Agent as the party lodging the event and that they followed the correct procedure prior to lodging, i.e., requesting client authority or applying a standing authority against the lodgement.
