Explanation
When you classify an employee with a Foreign Employment (FEI) income type, you must pay or be liable to pay, the foreign government. In other words, you must pay the employee's foreign country of employment the required tax to qualify the employee's earnings as foreign employment income. If you have not entered this data correctly, the platform will display the above warning when you go to submit a Single Touch Payroll (STP) lodgement.
Solution
You can enter an employee's foreign tax you have paid in the last STP event for that financial year but you must only do this when you have selected in the lodgement event the Is Final checkbox for that employee. To read further information on how to mark an employee as final refer to this article for pay events and this article for update events. If there is no foreign tax liability to report or pay, then you must change an employee's income type classification from FEI to Salary & Wages (SAW).
