The Australian Government Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) requires specific occupational category codes for 2026 compliance lodgements. To ensure your reporting is accurate, you can now record ANZSCO 2022 codes directly within an employee profile. This feature allows you to maintain both OSCA and ANZSCO data, ensuring your Workplace Profile export contains the precise information required by WGEA.
This article will show you how to manage the following:
- Update an employee occupational category
- Review occupational codes on the WGEA report
- Import ANZSCO codes in bulk
- Further information
Update an employee occupational category
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Select the employee whose record you wish to update.
- Go to the Employment History section.
- Click the Edit button on the relevant history record.
- Scroll to the WGEA reporting section.
- Locate the Occupational category (ANZSCO) field.
- Type the job title or code to see a dropdown of matching ANZSCO 2022 options.
- Select the correct code from the list.
- Click Save.
Helpful Hint
If you select an ANZSCO code that belongs to a manager group, the Manager Category field will automatically appear so you can complete the mandatory WGEA classification.
If your specific occupation does not appear in the standard reference list, you can manually enter a custom code.
- Navigate to the WGEA reporting section within an employee's employment history record.
- Type your custom code and description directly into the Occupational category (ANZSCO) field.
- Confirm the entry and click Save.
Review occupational codes on the WGEA report
You can review your data accuracy before downloading your final submission file.
- Click the Reports icon on the left-hand menu.
- Select WGEA Workplace Profile.
- Once the report loads, locate the OSCA Occupational Category and ANZSCO Occupational Category columns.
- Verify that the correct codes are displayed for each employee.
Helpful Hint
The ANZSCO column will show a blank value if no code has been entered yet. The system will use the ANZSCO code as the priority for your export, but will fall back to the OSCA code if the ANZSCO field is empty.
Import ANZSCO codes in bulk
- Prepare your employee import CSV file.
- Add a new column titled ANZSCO Occupational Category.
- Enter the relevant ANZSCO codes for your employees in this column.
- Log in to Employment Hero.
- Navigate to the Import Employees section.
- Upload your file.
- The system will save the ANZSCO codes to each matching employee profile.
Further information
The WGEA Workplace Profile export follows a specific priority logic to ensure your data is valid for submission:
- ANZSCO Priority: If an employee has an ANZSCO code saved, the export will use this code and ignore the OSCA code.
- OSCA Fallback: If no ANZSCO code is found, the system will automatically convert the existing OSCA code to its major group for the export.
- Custom Codes: If you use a custom ANZSCO entry, the export will only include the numerical code and exclude the description text.
- Blank Records: If neither code is present, the occupational category cell will remain blank.
